MJF took his AEW Dynamite promo to new depths this week as he mocked Darby Allin’s dead uncle and teased the idea of jumping to WWE.
The 25-year-old wrestler, who directly referenced WWE executive Bruce Pritchard during a shocking segment on Wednesday night’s episode, didn’t hold back as he moved onto a rivalry with his fellow rising star.
First, MJF came down to the ring with Wardlow and demanded what he thinks he deserves, insisting he wants an AEW World Championship match before suggesting he could go elsewhere if it doesn’t happen soon.
Cheekily referencing WWE president Nick Khan, he said: ‘Tony Khan, we’re real good friends – I love you buddy. As a matter of fact, out of all the Khan’s in professional wrestling, you’re easily in my top two!
‘However, if you don’t start giving me the opportunities that I deserve, well, I have other friends from back in the day.
‘I have a friend, back in the day, from my MLW days and his name is not CM Punk, no, it’s Bruce Pritchard. And I’ve got Brucie on speed dial.’
CM Punk was on commentary and brilliantly insisted that was nothing special because ‘everybody’ has Pritchard on speed dial, while Allin made his way to the ring to fire back at MJF.
However, the worst was yet to come as the star – who’s become known for his controversial and brilliantly crafted promos – targeted his new rival’s straight edge lifestyle and family history.
After teasing Darby for his ‘Batman voice’, he added: ”Do you people know why Darby Allin is straight edge?
‘Well, that’s because when Darby Allin was but a wee little boy, he decided to hop in the car with his drunken, sloppy, alcoholic uncle. They went for a joy ride and Darby, you guys got into a little accident, didn’t you?
‘And your uncle died that night, didn’t he? And that’s a real travesty, Darby. Do you know why it’s a travesty? Because that night, the wrong man died!’
He tried to goad Darby into hitting him, but the star – who has been aligned with Sting since the icon’s AEW debut in 2020 – refused and insisting he won’t be broken.
‘No Max, I’m not going to hit you – because you will not break me mentally,’ he coolly replied. ‘So, if you’ve got anything else to add, now’s the time. Keep talking. Keep talking. Keep talking!’
This was enough for MJF, who left with Wardlow to a chorus of boos from the Rochester crowd.
