On Good Morning Britain Wednesday morning a guest awkwardly misnamed cohost Alastair Campbell – and the 64-year-old wasn’t impressed with the blunder.

Susanna Reid confirmed Alastair would be returning to the ITV breakfast show this week after sparking Ofcom complaints when he made his presenting debut in May.

After Richard Madeley had daily clashes with Dr Hilary Jones over Covid-19, former spin doctor Alastair was back on the morning programme.

Darren Lewis appeared to be confused while discussing tonight’s Euros 2020 semi-final, as he referred to the presenter by the wrong name.

Appearing via video, the journalist brought up a comment Alastair had made earlier on in the programme.

He said: ‘I love the fact that Andrew, you’ve done your homework – the numbers are in our favour.’

It seemed like Darren had confused Alastair for political commentator Andrew Pierce, who was also present.

The camera quickly cut to a bewildered Andrew who mouthed: ‘I didn’t say that’.

Alastair also picked up on the blunder and called out the guest.

‘Did he call me Andrew? You can’t compare me to a Daily Mail journalist Darren, I used to work for your paper,’ he said.

Darren took the mistake in his stride, as he laughed along with the panel.

Speaking to Alastair, Andrew added: ‘You’re going to sue over that.’

Also during the programme Dr Hilary Jones winced and covered his ears as Alastair ‘treated’ Good Morning Britain viewers with a rendition of Three Lions on the bagpipes.

Alastair couldn’t stop talking about England competing against Denmark during Euros 2020 and was eager to share his bagpipe skills in celebration.

‘Even though he’s a proud Scot, he’s going to get us in the mood for the match tonight,’ Susanna said.

She added with a grimace: ‘You’ve been practising hard, I can testify to that, there was quite a ding coming from the dressing room this morning.’

While Alastair played the Scottish instrument Dr Hilary couldn’t help but cover his ears.

Alastair warned that Three Lions was a ‘really hard’ tune to play on the instrument.

‘It sounded very good, it just didn’t sound like It’s Coming Home throughout the entire performance,’ Susanna said.

Good Morning Britain airs 6am weekdays on ITV.
