Alastair Campbell has revealed his daughter rejected Dua Lipa in the school playground as he returned to present Good Morning Britain today.

The host, who is fronting the ITV daytime programme alongside Susanna Reid during Mental Health Awareness week, was discussing last night’s Brit Awards when he shared the anecdote.

‘She went to school with my daughter,’ Alastair said, speaking of his daughter Grace, who is a comedian and attended Parliament Hill School.

‘And my daughter wouldn’t let her into, what my daughter considered to be, the cool gang.’

‘So your daughter missed out on being best mates with Dua Lipa?’ Susanna asked.

‘My daughter does a whole comedy schtick about how she was the cool girl at school and she had a sort of pubs and clubs and stand-up and Dua Lipa is travelling the world and is one of the greatest stars on the planet.’

Dua was the big winner at a female-dominated Brit Awards, marking the return of live music to the O2 Arena after more than a year.

The singer used her acceptance speech at the Brits to ‘send a message’ to Boris Johnson as she called for NHS workers to get a pay rise, as well as dedicating one of her awards to Folajimi Olubunmi-Adewole.

The Levitating hitmaker won the award for British female solo artist, and explained that she chose nurse Dame Elizabeth Anionwu as her fellow honouree to share her award with.

‘[Dame Elizabeth] has also said that there’s a massive disparity between gratitude and respect for frontline workers because it’s very good to clap for them but we need to pay them,’ she said.

‘And so I think what we should do is we should all give a massive, massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a fair pay rise for our frontline. Thank you so much.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
