The 28-year-old Brazil international joined United from Porto last summer for a fee of around £15million, a move which raised serious questions surrounding the future of Luke Shaw.
But Shaw rose to the challenge and established himself as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-choice left-back last term and his outstanding performances saw him named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
With Shaw continuing to go from strength to strength and starring for England at Euro 2020, there has been mounting talk that Telles could be set for the exit door at Old Trafford just 12 months on from his arrival.
Roma have been heavily linked with the Brazilian, with head coach Jose Mourinho scouring the transfer market for cover at full-back following Leonardo Spinazzola’s devastating Achilles injury at the Euros.
But it appears Telles has no intention of leaving the Red Devils so early into his spell in the north west.
‘I’m really happy to be back here,’ the former Porto defender told United’s official website.
‘It’s a pleasure to be at Manchester United coming into my second season.
‘Last season, we came really close to winning trophies, so we go into this next season with a lot of desire and I really want to show my work and my value here at the club.’
United are preparing for their opening pre-season game away to Derby County this weekend and Telles is excited for the ‘tough test’ that awaits at Pride Park.
‘I’m really looking forward to the game, I’m going into the game with a lot of desire,’ he added.
‘I think it’s a really great opportunity for us players who have been here for the last two weeks.
‘It’s going to be a tough test but we’re really well prepared for it. We’ve been working really hard in training today, and this last week, and I believe it’s an opportunity to show my value my quality and my potential here at Manchester United.
‘I know Manchester United Football Club and the fans really believe in me.’
United finished 12 points behind champions Manchester City last season and Telles feels its ‘really important’ the squad get their minds and bodies right to give themselves the best possible chance of closing the gap on their bitter rivals.
‘Pre-season is really important for all of us players. It’s a time to prepare ourselves physically and psychologically,’ he went on.
‘It’s where we get our bodies ready for everything that’s coming up and to be physically prepared for the entire season.
‘It’s really important that we focus on our work, psychologically and mentally, and we get in our minds to understand what the coach wants from us. So it’s full focus.’
