Alexandra Burke has revealed she was able to cope with being put through her paces on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins after losing her mum, Melissa Bell.

The X Factor winner, 33, appears in the new series of the brutal show, in which ex-Special Forces soldiers recreate the SAS’s secret selection process.

Alexandra admitted she was able to endure their ultimate test of physical and psychological resilience as her own mental strength is ‘quite high’ after the death of her mum four years ago.

In a new interview, as reported by The Mirror, the Bad Boys hitmaker said: ‘My mental strength, honestly, comes from a place where I’ve seen my mum go through so many ups and downs in her life and her career.’

The singer shared that ‘nothing’ could’ve prepared her for her mum’s death in August 2017.

‘I’ve seen her raise four children by herself with the help of my grandfather and my auntie. I’ve seen and witnessed so much.

‘I think that is where my strength comes from because I don’t have an excuse in my eyes to be anything but strong,” she said.

Alexandra recently reflected on her journey on the show, in which Kerry Katona, Ulrika Jonsson and Saira Khan are also contestants.

Taking to Instagram to give her fans a look behind the scenes, she said she ‘felt sick knowing everyone is about to see’ what they went through.

However, the actor also felt ‘so proud’ when she left after building ‘a lovely bond’ with ‘amazing people.’

Alexandra’s mum, who performed with Soul II Soul, was 53 when she died.

The Strictly Come Dancing star recently got a tattoo in memory of her beloved mum, which she shared with her 230k Instagram followers.

Accompanied by a photo of her wrist with her mum’s handwriting on, taken from a birthday card, she wrote: ‘4 years today.. It doesn’t get any easier. I love you mummy… you are always with me. But now I can look down and see your handwriting on my wrist forever.’

The songwriter ‘hopes and prays’ she is doing her mum proud, saying: ‘Everything I do is still for you.’

SAS: Who Dares Wins continues Sundays at 9pm on Channel 4.
