The Britain’s Got Talent judge stars alongside Leigh Francis in E4’s The Holden Girls: Mandy & Myrtle, which premiered last night.
The mockumentary sees Holden playing herself as the Keith Lemon star takes on the character of Myrtle, Mandy’s nan.
Mandy is in the process of persuading her lonely grandmother to relocate from Doncaster to live with her in her London home and chaos ensues as Myrtle adapts to her granddaughter’s reality, interacting with all her famous friends and colleagues.
However, fans were baffled by the first episode as it failed to impress, and they aired their thoughts on Twitter.
‘I caught less than ten seconds of #mandyandmyrtle but that was more than enough for me to know with some degree of certainty that it is beyond doubt the worst show ever made,’ one declared.
‘Is this really what entertainment has come to #mandyandmyrtle FFS!’ wondered a second viewer.
Another commenter joked: ‘Whoever greenlit this show should be imprisoned.’
‘Anyone remember when @E4Tweets used to have good shows on? Who made this decision? #mandyandmyrtle,’ added a further viewer.
Meanwhile, someone else wondered: ‘Amanda Holden in a ‘comedy’ with Leigh Francis as her nan?! What kind of hell is this?! #mandyandmyrtle’
‘Myrtle is trying to be funny, hasn’t worked. Painful to watch,’ was another user’s verdict.
A few people though enjoyed the madness though, with one viewer saying: ‘Ahaha I loved this proper made me giggle #mandyandmyrtle’
‘Thoroughly enjoyed the new comedy #mandyandmyrtle,’ added a second fan with a third chuckling: ‘me & the missus really enjoyed it. Good, light hearted entertainment & Amanda showing that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. Not to mention looking beautiful as always!!’
Ahead of the launch, Amanda spoke about her on-screen nan saying: ‘I’m delighted that everyone is finally going to meet my nan, the apple never falls far from my tree and in this series, she will certainly be keeping me on my toes.’
The E4 series will continue for another seven weeks on Tuesdays at 10pm.
