Arsenal news: Norway boss gives fresh Martin Odegaard injury update

Norway boss Stale Solbakken says Arsenal star Martin Odegaard remains a doubt for his nation’s upcoming clash with Turkey after picking up an injury in Wednesday’s win over Gibraltar.

The midfielder, who is starting to find top form for the Gunners, was taken off at half-time after appearing to twist his ankle, having attempted – and failed – to play on following the incident.

After the game Solbakken was optimistic that Odegaard’s injury was nothing serious, though he did not participate in Thursday’s post-match training session.

Although he was spotted out on the pitch for a brief period, he did not do any ball work – instead strolling round the pitches with a physio and teammate Birger Meling – and had an individual session in the gym while the rest of the squad took part in a small-sided game.

Solbakken is still hopeful Odegaard will be involved in Saturday’s game against Turkey, though could not give any assurances over his participation.

‘I have not actually talked to Martin about it,’ the Norway boss told the media at a press conference on Thursday following the session.

‘He’s had his recovery with his uncle [Norway team physiotherapist Thomas Odegaard], so I don’t have the latest news.

‘No decision will be made on that before match day, so we have to wait and see how it develops.

‘We hope he will be able to play [against Turkey], but it is a short time in between.’

If Odegaard is unavailable to take on Turkey in Norway’s World Cup qualifier this weekend they will hope he can play some part in their away clash with Montenegro on Tuesday.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are next in action on Saturday April 3 against Liverpool at the Emirates – nine days’ time – and will expect Odegaard to be back fit for that massive fixture.
