Boris Johnson under pressure to sack Matt Hancock as affair could become 'Barnard Castle moment'

Boris Johnson has suggested Matt Hancock had to go – despite previously giving him his full backing.

The Health Secretary resigned last week for breaking social distancing rules after being pictured kissing an aide.

On a campaign visit to Batley on Monday, the PM was asked whether the episode undermined the message about being ‘all in it together’.

Mr Johnson said: ‘That’s right, and that’s why when I saw the story on Friday we had a new Secretary of State for Health in on Saturday.’
