Chesterfield pub left with unfortunate sign after letter fall off in heatwave

An unexpected event has given this Chesterfield boozer a boost in popularity (Picture: The County Music Bar)

The scorching weather has been too much for some – not least a pub in Derbyshire.

Chesterfield rocker venue the County Music Bar lost a very important letter and now looks like a different type of establishment entirely.

The pub wrote on Facebook: ‘We apologise for any offence.

‘The heat has caused the “O” to crack and drop off leaving us with a rather interesting new sign.

‘I can confirm we are not turning into a strip club.’

Punters found the post hilarious, with numerous calls for the letter to remain detached.

One person said it’s made the pub 10 times more popular and owner Phillip Deacon was delighted with the response.

‘It’s been crazy,’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘The post reached 250,000 people organically with over 2,000 reactions and 1,000 shares.

‘Good old British humour.

‘I checked CCTV and it genuinely was just the heat and not vandalism. But it certainly has given us some exposure.

‘Anything is great after the last 12 months, as we are a live music venue, bar and grill trying to get back to normal business as soon as possible.

‘Hopefully it might even bring a few new faces in. Not sure how long the council will let me keep it in current condition though…’

Minus an O, the music bar may rank among some of the country’s most foul-named pubs.

But if the same fate befell legendary Hampshire boozer the Foul Mouthed Count, it would surely top it.

The July heatwave has raged for a number of days, with the hottest day of the year being recorded at 32.2°C on Tuesday.

It finally looks set to break this weekend and a yellow weather warning for heavy rain has been issued by the Met Office.
