It comes at a critical time for both soaps, as they are preparing to film a huge week of drama which is seen as an exciting comeback.
But staff working on both shows have been t told coronavirus cases on set are worse than in January when it shut down production for two weeks.
When they came off air, Emmerdale was forced to film some coronavirus based one off episodes while Corrie had enough episodes in the bank to continue.
Since then, both shows have been filming socially distanced, except for special scenes where actors have bubbled in order to be able to film closely.
These include Kevin and Debbie Webster being trapped in a freezer and Meena Jutla murdering Leanna Cavanagh.
It is thought that the spreading Delta variant of the virus could be to blame for the rise in cases.
With the risk that the shows may have to come off air again, bosses have been warned to take action and focus on strict measure to be adhered.
ITV spokespersons are not currently commenting on the situation.
It comes a week before many restrictions are lifted, in what is dubbed ‘freedom day’
