The UK recorded 33,470 daily coronavirus cases on Thursday – over 10,000 more than were recorded the day before.

This is the highest daily figure since the outbreak began, and brings the total number of cases in the UK to 1,290,195.

563 deaths were also recorded yesterday.

The news comes as an NHS health advisor quit her call centre job and became a figurehead for the Covid-19 conspiracy movement.

Louise Hampton, formerly of Care UK, spreads disputed claims via social media and is touring Covid-19 testing sites without wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in an effort to show they are empty.
