More than 20 million people in the UK have now had a second coronavirus vaccine, official figures showed on Sunday.

NHS England said a further 353,764 second doses had been administered in the past 24 hours.

Added to the UK-wide figure of 19,698,121 given on Saturday, that means more than 20 million people are now fully vaccinated.

UK-wide figures are due out later today.

As of yesterday, 36,320,867 people had been given a first dose.

It comes as Health Secretary Matt Hancock said he had a ‘degree of confidence’ that the jabs would be effective against the Indian variant.

Meanwhile, people aged 38 and 39 can now sign up to get jabbed and the over 35s are expected to be invited ‘within days’.

This is a breaking story – more to follow.
