Love Island star Demi Jones has shared a months old video of herself from when she first noticed a lump on her neck, before being diagnosed with thyroid cancer in May this year.

Demi had been compiling her journey with cancer on social media in a bid to help any fans who are going through a similar battle, when she came across the video from March.

In the clip the reality TV star says she is ‘scared’ and shows fans a sizeable lump on her neck, explaining she had had it for the past two years. Her appointments to see a doctor about it kept being pushed back as the NHS deals with the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘I’m genuinely scared right because I’ve had this lump on my neck for about two years and it’s getting bigger,’ she begins in the video.

‘I don’t think this filter is doing it much justice. You can sort of the see the ring of it here. It’s actually massive. If I sort of swallow you can see it better.

‘But I’m scared because I’m literally supposed to have an appointment in September, every month they’ve been rearranging it because obviously the pressures on the NHS and stuff at the moment because of Covid.

‘It’s been six months and I’m still not getting it checked and it’s getting bigger and it’s like stressing me out. I’m noticing it so much more in pictures.’

Demi captioned the footage, shared on her Instagram Story: ‘So I was making a cancer highlight on my Insta and came across this video from March and it’s haunting. Little did I know.’

In a further post she added ‘#CheckYourLumps’.

The 22-year-old has had surgery to remove her thyroid in the hopes of removing the cancer, however she isn’t sure if she is yet cancer-free.

Demi held a Q&A on social media about her health battle, telling followers that she needs to get further treatment.

When one fan asked if she was getting chemotherapy, Demi said: ‘I’m fortunate enough not to go through chemotherapy. I’ve had my surgery. to remove the thyroid and I’m going to have some further iodine treatment.’

She continued: ‘I haven’t been told that I’m cancer free yet. I’m not actually sure if it’s completely gone or completely not gone yet. I’ve got to have some further iodine treatment in about six weeks time and some scans but hopefully by the end of the year I’ll know whether I’m cancer free.’

The former islander first discovered the lump in 2019 but ignored it because she was at university ‘and I was really stressed out about my exams’, adding: ‘I eventually got it checked just before Love Island which was brushed off.’

She had no symptoms apart from the golf-ball sized lump itself.

Demi thanked fans for their kind words and said: ‘The support has been so overwhelming, but it is hard especially when I’m caught socialising with my friends and I’m drinking and people are coming up to me and asking me about my cancer, it can make me quite emotional.

‘But I’m being super strong and super positive and I’ll get through it.’
