Just like any other soap, the EastEnders set has become iconic. Albert Square has seen some explosive drama take place, and what building is at the heart of it all? The Queen Victoria pub.
It’s been set on fire, people have fallen off the roof, so many storylines have been in the pub and, quite surprisingly, it’s still standing!
EastEnders cast past and present have all set foot in the boozer, making that building a very special place indeed, and for James Farrar who plays newbie Zack Hudson, being in the Queen Vic made him think of landlady and EastEnders legend Dame Barbara Windsor:
‘My wife has been coming in regularly because you can’t come within two metres of people. So, say there’s a kiss, say there’s a punch, say there’s something else that goes on, that will be Ali a lot of the time. We were in the Vic at one point, and we’re on the top floor, and Ali just turned to me and said, “this carpet. Barbara Windsor has walked on this carpet”, and I looked at her and we just had goosebumps.’
‘Having seen the Square on the box for years and years and years, I live in a very calm house in a close. Try to keep the world away. And the Square is silent, and I just love that. Sometimes I sit out there at night, and I did it the other night, I just sat there on the bench and thought, this is surreal, and special. I just look forward to the sun coming out in and realising that we can sit out there hopefully, and have lunch together.
