The Matchroom chief revealed last month a site deal for the all-British heavyweight unification bout has been agreed with Saudi Arabia set to host the fight.
Rumours this week suggested a formal announcement might have followed the super-middleweight clash between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders, fought in front of 70,000 spectators at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
While nothing official was confirmed, Hearn suggested big news could come next week while also discussing Canelo’s next fight against Caleb Plant.
Speaking after Canelo’s stoppage win over Saunders, Hearn told DAZN: ‘Ultimately, Canelo Alvarez will fight absolutely anybody.
‘You know who he wants to fight, he has told me who he wants to fight, Caleb Plant.
‘We will speak to their team, wherever that has to take place, that is the fight that must happen in boxing, the undisputed championship at 168lbs. It is the must-make fight.
‘This [Canelo] is a pound-for-pound star. Him and AJ are the two biggest stars in the sport. And we’ve got a good bit of news coming for you next week as well.’
Canelo’s victory over Saunders saw him add the WBO super-middleweight title to a collection that already includes the WBA, WBC and Ring Magazine straps.
Plant possesses the final piece of the puzzle in the IBF title, with Canelo’s sights now firmly on the American.
‘That’s my plan, to go for the belt,’ Canelo told DAZN post-fight.
‘I’m coming my friend.’
