Gareth Southgate is reportedly set to switch to a three-man defence for England’s Euro 2020 final encounter against Italy, with Kieran Trippier expected to come in for Bukayo Saka at Wembley.

Arsenal youngster Saka started on the right wing as the Three Lions saw off Denmark in extra time to secure their place at a first final of a major tournament since 1966.

And though the 19-year-old impressed before being substituted in the 69th minute, he will be sacrificed as Southgate looks to alter his formation versus Roberto Mancini’s men.

Atletico Madrid full-back Trippier has started two matches of the campaign thus far and came off the bench with 15 minutes remaining of extra time against the Danes in the last round.

Southgate started out with a 4-3-3 formation for England’s opening three group games before opting for a three-man defence as goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane earned the hosts a famous victory over Germany in the last 16.

According to The Telegraph, the England head coach experimented with various formations in training at St. George’s Park over the last few days before making his decision.

The report claims Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is likely to be introduced as a substitute for this evening’s spectacle.

More to follow.
