The Euro 2020 is England’s first major one in 55 years, and only the nation’s second opportunity to lift a trophy, having not reached the final two in any competition since 1966.

Gareth Southgate’s squad had to overcome some tough opposition to reach the last two, beating the likes of Croatia in the group stage, Germany in the Round of 16, and Denmark in the semi-final.

Tomorrow, the Three Lions face their toughest challenge yet, coming up against the formidable Italy – who are currently on a 33-match undefeated run.

The Italians earned their place after defeating Spain in the semi-finals.

But while the world eagerly awaits the historic England v Italy match, will Denmark and Spain get the opportunity to fight it out for the bronze medal?

Here’s all you need to know.

Is there a third and fourth place Euro 2020 match?

Unlike the World Cup, Euro 2020 does not have a third-place play-off game.

Many football fans see this as a huge shame considering how great the match would’ve been as Denmark and Spain are both well-performing teams.

That means that there are no third and fourth places in the Euros, only first and second.

The European Championships is the only major international tournament that doesn’t have a match to determine the third-placed team, with a play-off also existing in the Copa America and The African Cup of Nations.

However, in the past, a third-place match took place in the Euros, specifically between 1960 and 1980.

The decision to scrap the match came after the 1980 tournament suffered poor viewing figures, which led to a revamped format of the tournament.

So, with no third-place match, the world’s eyes will be on the game between the Three Lions and Italy tomorrow.

You can watch England vs Italy tomorrow on ITV and BBC One at 8pm.
