Jose Mourinho says Jack Grealish is an ‘easy’ solution as a replacement for Mason Mount in England’s final Euro 2020 group game against the Czech Republic.

Mourinho, the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager, also thinks Kalvin Phillips and Phil Foden should drop out of the starting line-up, with Marcus Rashford and Jude Bellingham playing from the off.

England will look to top Group D on Tuesday night at Wembley, with a victory guaranteeing they will emerge as the group winners.

Grealish and Bellingham have both had limited game time during the tournament so far but Mourinho believes the time has come for them to play a starring role after the 0-0 draw with Scotland on Friday.

‘Before the first game [a 1-0 win over Croatia] I was saying Bellingham, Grealish,’ Mourinho told TalkSport. ‘I agreed when Gareth didn’t [play them]. First game, lots of pressure the way Croatia played. I agreed, supported, understood.

Jude Bellingham of England is congratulated by team mate Jack Grealish after Bukayo Saka of England scores their side's first goal during the international friendly match between England and Austria at Riverside Stadium on June 02, 2021 in Middlesbrough, England.

‘But in this nature of matches a player like Bellingham is better than to have Rice and Phillips. Both are playing well but the team needs something different.

‘I keep saying, when a team is a bit of lack of confidence, playing with some fear, too cautious, a little hidden – you have to play the one that doesn’t hide. That’s Grealish. He doesn’t hide.

‘He can make mistakes, lose the ball but he doesn’t hide. Against Scotland in the last 10 minutes he won two or three free kicks. He brings stability.

‘If Mount is out because of this Gilmour positive test, I believe that it’s easy, you just play Grealish as a 10, give him the freedom to go to the side, especially the left side but give him the freedom to be close to Harry, to create, to dribble.

‘Grealish behind Harry and Bellingham in midfield. A difficult decision because it’s not easy to leave out players you’re very happy with but one has to stay out, probably Phillips.

‘Rice, Bellingham, Grealish, Kane and one of Sterling or Rashford, if not both because England needs to scare a bit and not let defensive opposition lines feel very comfortable.’

Asked if he would play Foden, Mourinho replied: ‘Not for this match, I don’t think.

‘When you have this kind of squad, it can’t be a drama. When the squad is very good, this is a very normal situation to happen. To leave Foden and Phillips out is not to say I’m not happy with you, you are not playing again.

‘It’s a very natural situation, big squad. Everyone is ready to play. I just feel every game is different, then next match if you play Portugal, France and Germany you have a different approach.

‘Germany is so strong playing in this system of two wing-backs, three centre-backss, maybe gareth would decide to play that system and maybe maguire is ready to play with mings and stones, other players stay on the bench.

‘Internally it has to be something smooth, something they accept naturally. Trust the guys, trust the coach, until the last day let’s be supportive and believe something great can happen. I believe.’
