The nation will be watching with bated breath tonight as England aims to win its first major international football tournament in 55 years.

The team will be taking on Italy in the final of Euro 2020, with 60,000 fans set to descend upon Wembley Stadium for the historic game.

Of course both teams will have their eyes on the prize – the Euro 2020 trophy, which will be presented to the winning side once the game is over.

But just who will present the trophy to the winners?

Here’s what you need to know…

Who will present the Euro 2020 trophy?

It’s been confirmed that the winning side will this year be presented with the trophy by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin – who has also given the trophy to the winners in the last five editions of the tournament.

In a change with tradition, the presentation will also take place on the pitch at Wembley Stadium, rather than on the ground’s balcony – the change having been make in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

On previous occasions, when a football tournament has taken place on these shores, the trophy has been presented to the winners by the Queen.

Her Majesty presented the World Cup to the England squad back in 1966, and also presented Germany, the winners of 1996, with the trophy when the tournament took place in England.

Although the Queen will not be playing any part in Sunday’s final, Prince William will be attending the match, and it’s been reported he will play some part in the aftermath of the match.

However it’s not yet clear what his role will be.

The Euro 2020 final kicks off tonight at 8pm, with coverage on BBC One from 6.20pm and on ITV from 6.30pm.
