It was picked up on TikTok to soundtrack the ‘quarantine dance’, and Jamie Laing did the cha cha to the song on Strictly Come Dancing’s opening episode.
Unfortunately, despite becoming one of the biggest Eurovision crossover hits in years, Daði and his band Gagnamagnið never got to storm to victory.
This was all because the contest was cancelled for the first time ever due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Sadly now – as Daði and his band were getting ready to make their presence known on the Turquoise Carpet – one of their team members has contracted the disease.
Even though it hasn’t been revealed whether it is a band member or someone else who is ill, they all now have to isolate to help stop the spread.
This means the band will not attend the Turquoise Carpet event in person this afternoon.
A statement from Eurovision reads: ‘In accordance with our strict health and safety protocol this person has now gone into isolation and as a precautionary measure, the other members of their delegation will also now undergo a PCR test and self-isolate.
‘Unfortunately, this means that the Icelandic delegation will now not attend the Turquoise Carpet event in person this afternoon (Sunday May 16).
‘We will have further updates in due course and send our best wishes to the whole delegation.’
The Eurovision Song Contest 2021 is taking place this year in Rotterdam, with the full support and assistance of the Dutch authorities.
‘Our primary objective is to produce a fully Covid-19 safe event, and the health and welfare of all those taking part, working at the event or in the audience is our most important priority,’ the statement reads.
We have our fingers crossed that Iceland will still be able to perform!
The contest is due to start on May 18, with the BBC taking on widespread coverage of the event.
