Germany manager Joachim Loew is yet to discover whether the trio of Ilkay Gundogan, Robin Gosens and Antonio Rudiger will be available for the huge Euro 2020 last 16 clash with England on Tuesday afternoon at Wembley.
They are not run of the mill problems to deal with, as Gosens and Rudiger are both trying to overcome infections, while Gundogan hit his head in the last game against Hungary in Group F.
Loew has not made the final call on any of the three players and will only do so on the day of the match.
‘For all three we will have to see how it develops and we will decide tomorrow,’ Loew told a news conference on Monday. ‘We cannot say now. We have to wait. I do not know that yet tonight.’
Germany finished second in Group F after beating Portugal, drawing with Hungary and losing to France, with the only really good performance coming against the Portuguese.
Loew has no concern about his team’s form, though, saying that tournament football is simply about progression and, while he would like a sparking display against England he is only bothered about winning.
‘In the group we came through there was no beauty prize to be won,’ Loew said. ‘It was only about coming through this group and now we have an all-or-nothing game. So we can only say we have to go out and win it.
‘You don’t want to play a spectacular game and then stand there in the end with nothing to show for it. We want to win it but you still have to put in a good performance.’
