The leader of the west African nation of Guinea has been captured in a suspected coup by members of his own armed forces, according to reports.

Footage appeared to show soldiers detaining President Alpha Condé was released to news agency AFP alongside a statement declaring they had dissolved the government.

But the situation remains unclear as Mr Condé’s government had released a statement a short time earlier saying an attack on the presidential palace by special forces had been ‘repulsed’.
