Halsey has sworn off doing press after hitting out at a recent interview that ‘disrespected’ and ‘misquoted’ them.

In now-deleted tweets the singer swore off press going forward in response to an article in Allure which they said misgendered them.

Tweeting the magazine directly, Halsey, who recently welcomed their first child with boyfriend Alev Aydin, said their pronouns – which are she/they – were ‘deliberately disrespected’.

They added that part of their experience of ‘being the white child of a black parent’ was ‘used…to make the antithesis of the point I was trying to make’.

Halsey, 26, continued: ‘All of this ironically on the tails of an article where I give your author the intimate admission that I hate doing press because I get exploited and misquoted. Do f**king better….?’

They later tweeted: ‘#NoMorePress goodbye’.

Their comments have since been removed from the site, but the Without Me Singer did share a red love heart emoji.

In March the Grammy-nominated artist, who is preparing to release new album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, proudly shared that they identify as a woman and also non-binary, a term used to describe people who feel their gender cannot be defined within the margins of the gender binary.

They also clarified that the use of both ‘she’ and ‘they’ ‘feels most authentic to me’.

‘If you know me at all you know what it means to me to express this outwardly,’ they added.

Allure responded to Halsey’s tweets with an apology: ‘We’ve heard your feedback and you’re absolutely right: we messed up. We are adjusting our cover story with Halsey to use both “she” and “they” pronouns.’
