A headteacher who sexually assaulted a mum and sent her ‘relentless smutty emails’ has been banned from the classroom for life.

Kevin Thomas, 49, bombarded the parent with ‘salacious and vulgar’ messages for more than a year, bought her a pair of knickers and groped her in a school office in 2015.

The married man, who was also regularly inappropriate with staff, was convicted of sexual assault and jailed for four months in 2018.

Now, he has been struck off the teaching register for being ‘harmful’ towards women with ‘unacceptable professional conduct’ at Glan-yr-Afon school in Llanrumney, Cardiff.

Thomas sent the mum multiple emails with ‘sexually explicit content’ and refused to stop when his victim said they made her feel uncomfortable, a misconduct hearing heard.

He once responded to her pleas to stop with: ‘Not until I get a kiss and a cuddle.’

The mum told the Education Workforce Council: ‘I said I would never encourage his behaviour and I told him I did not like what he was doing as I was not that type of person.’

But the harassment continued, with Thomas telling the woman he had dreams about her wearing white or pink underwear before actually buying her a pair.

‘I said I did not want them and he should give them to his wife. I gritted my teeth and walked away squirming. I could not believe he thought that was ok,’ the woman said.

Thomas touched the woman on several occasions and at one point he groped her body in a school office – the sexual assault he was convicted for.

The headteacher, on an annual salary of £51,000, also exploited his position to treat staff inappropriately.

He told a teaching assistant he would ‘slap her bottom’, telling everyone it was ‘national slap a bottom day’, and even tried to pull the assistant’s top down.

Teachers said Thomas used ‘sexual innuendo’ in front of primary school children so often that colleagues became ‘desensitised’.

The hearing was told how Thomas ‘showed a propensity for violence’ and had previously been convicted for attacking his wife.

Delivering the panel’s decision to ban him from schools, chair Tracy Jones said yesterday: ‘Mr Thomas’ conduct was sexually motivated and he had exploited the trust, knowledge and influence derived from his senior, professional position. This was sustained, serious sexual misconduct.

‘There was evidence of harmful deep-seated personality and attitudinal problems. Specifically, in relation to Mr Thomas’ attitudes towards women.

‘Mr Thomas had embarked on a sustained, extremely serious and deliberate course of conduct, which was sexually motivated.’

He did not have any representation at the hearing.
