I’m A Celebrity fans were left in stitches as they watched Ant and Dec finally take on the dreaded bushtucker eating trial – especially after learning Dec’s wife had signed off on the particularly vile menu.
Sunday night saw the much-loved series air I’m A Celebrity: A Jungle Story, a retrospective show on the over years from camp highs and lows, to its many celebrity campmates and, of course, the trials they had to face.
Ant and Dec had tackled the famous cyclone challenge in the past, but were faced with three of the show’s famous challenges, including, of course, the one where you’re forced to chow down on some jungle, err, treats.
If it wasn’t Ant and Dec’s faces throughout each serving that had fans in stitches, then it was Ant’s revelation that Dec’s wife, Ali Astall, who he tied the knot with in 2015, as their manager had actually ‘signed off’ each stomach-churning item.
Ant was faced with a Witchetty grub, a blended vomit fruit shake and a fish eye. Dec, meanwhile, was given a fermented duck egg, a blended cockroaches smoothie and pig’s penis.
‘You know what the best bit is, dec’s wife is our manager, so she would have signed this all off,’ Ant joked.
As he got to grips with his blended vomit fruit, Ant then teased: ‘Your wife is so sacked.’
Fans were loving the tea and flocked to Twitter to praise Dec’s wife for being particularly brutal with the trial.
‘Howling that Dec’s wife organised for them to eat fish eyes and fermented egg #ImACeleb#imacelebrity,’ one viewer posted, as another entertained viewer questioned: ‘His wife approved?!’
‘When @antanddec both vote to sack their manager…aka…dec wife. brilliant……#ImACeleb,’ tweeted one fan.
‘I bet Dec rang his wife straight away like WHY,’ commented another, as one fan joked: ‘@antanddec bloody hell Dec your wife must have been [mad] with you, did you not take the bins out!’
Viewers called for the boys to give Ali a ‘promotion’, with one tweeting: ‘Also howling at the fact it’s Decs wife who’s the manager and signed it all for them to do it, she must be pissing herself or she secretly hates her husband and his best mate.’
Other trials Ant and Dec had to take on were Catch A Falling Star and Face Your Fears.
The first challenge saw the boys tasked with catching a yellow star in their hands while being covered in critters. It’s safe to say they didn’t fare too well, with Ant failing to catch any of his three stars, while Dec successfully caught just one.
‘I cannot believe this, how many NTAs?’ Joel teased, as he watched on.
Next, Ant and Dec were faced with standing with their head locked in a helmet, while their hands were in a box in front of them filled with bugs, where they had to unscrew two stars.
Dec’s helmet was filled with 1000 cockroaches and 50 spiders, with Ant remarking: ‘Thank god this is him because I hate spiders.’
Completing the task quicker than any of the campmates, Dec seemed pretty chuffed with his efforts, as he said: ‘They’re all rubbish, come on guys, toughen up.’
Ant then had to face his fears, as his turn saw his helmet filled with six snakes.
Not fazed, despite feeling ‘really claustrophobic’, Ant too managed to unscrew the stars in record timing.
Viewers watching on hailed Ant and Dec’s trial as the TV content they all needed, with many championing the presenters for ‘saving 2020’.
They will be back to host I’m A Celebrity’s 2020 series that kicks off next weekend, with the show changing its location as a result of the pandemic.
Instead of Australia, I’m A Celeb will ditch its usual jungle home for a haunted Welsh castle and confirmed stars set to take part include Vernon Kay, Shane Richie, AJ Pritchard and Beverly Callard.
I’m A Celebrity 2020 begins Sunday 15 November on ITV.
