I’m A Celebrity fans praise ‘Superwoman’ Giovanna Fletcher after abseil

I’m A Celebrity got off to a hairy start – with viewers watched in horror as Giovanna Fletcher slipped while abseiling.

The mum-of-three, who is already a fan fave, hadn’t even made it into the castle yet when she, alongside four other campmates, were given their first challenge.

Alongside Vernon Kay, Jessica Plummer, Jordan North and Victoria Derbyshire, Giovanna was told that they had to retrieve the 10 rucksacks for the campmates.

The catch? In order to do that they had to abseil over a cliff edge. No biggie.

The five other celebrities – Shane Richie, Sir Mo Farah, AJ Pritchard, Beverley Callard and Hollie Arnold – were responsible for lowering them down.

While Radio DJ Jordan North was sick at the thought of retrieving the belongings, Giovanna stepped up and became the first to take on the challenge.

However, viewers were left horrified as she quickly slipped on the way down, with Vernon watching on in horror and Jessica gasping at the intense moment.

Jessica wasn’t the only one, as viewers from home couldn’t believe what they were watching – but cheered Giovanna on the entire way.

Proving to be made of strong stuff, Gi quickly recovered and got to her rucksack, having to answer the questions attached to get the numerical code to unlock it.

With Shane in charge of looking after her, they got it right first time and she was able to get the rucksack safely.

And we could all collectively as a nation breathe again.

The first task has easily set us up for the next month of adventures in Wales, as the team set up home in Gwyrch Castle, Abergele, for the first time ever.

Forced to move due to coronavirus, the 10 celebrities are a far cry from the Australian jungle in the rustic new location, which is believed to be haunted.

And it’s all go from the start – with the team having to face horrific British weather including gale force winds and torrential rain in their first days together.

That’s before we even bring up those horrifying bushtucker trials – with the first being called the Gates Of Hell, which doesn’t sound too appetising.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here continues nightly at 9pm on ITV.
