John Cena has teased the possibility of a sensational WWE return after he had to miss this year’s WrestleMania.

The wrestler turned Hollywood star – who had appeared at every edition of the annual event since his win against The Big Show in 2004 – hasn’t been seen in the ring since he battled ‘The Fiend’ Bray Wyatt is a surreal Firefly Fun House clash last year.

However, he got fans talking with a cryptic post on Instagram as he simply shared the WWE logo.

As with all his posts on the social media platform, there was no caption and his followers have been left to interpret his message in their own way.

Naturally, many have been wondering if this was a hint about a potential comeback, particularly following reports the company is looking to have fans back from SummerSlam later this year.

Cena is playing his cards close to his chest and there’s ever chance he’s simply enjoying messing with his fans.

He recently did exactly that when he posted a snap of current NXT Champion Karrion Kross, who had opened up about his desire to face the legendary star.

Kross isn’t giving up on the idea either, as he reiterated his stance this week in an interview with BT Sport while discussing dream matches.

‘I have a few, but to narrow it down to one, I think John Cena would probably be the match that I would most likely be interested in for the immediate future,’ he said.

‘I think having the opportunity to work with John Cena on a really big stage, hopefully with people, would be awesome, and I think it’s two different generations meet. I attribute a lot of my modern-day inspiration to his generation.

‘I’ve never met him before, but it’s very easy to see, very easy to tell he’s one of the hardest working people like ever in this industry. He’s the reason why a lot of us have a job today.’

However, whether or not Cena would actually want to return for another match is entirely another matter.

‘I want to be where I am and doing what I am, that’s why I made that choice,’ he recently told Bleacher Report. ‘I think it’s really special, and we all think they’re never going to go on without us.

‘That’s not true. It’s more reassuring to me to not only see that WWE has a life after me, which is inevitable for sure, but that the life is thriving.’
