Katie Price forced to padlock the fridge amid fears for son Harvey

Katie Price has opened up about her son’s health battle in a heartbreaking interview

Katie Price has been forced to padlock her fridge and hide food at night, as she shared her fears for son Harvey, whose weight nears 29 stone amid his health battles.

The star opened up about her guilt around 18-year-old son Harvey’s eating this week and insisted he needed to lose some weight, which poses an incredible threat to his health.

Having recently asked her social media followers to help her sort workout equipment for Harvey – who is partially blind, and has autism and Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic condition that also causes excessive appetite – Katie has said her son ‘needs to lose weight or he’ll die’.

She told The Sun: ‘It’s a cruel illness. He feels hungry all the time. Every time I feed him, it’s killing him. Even though it makes him happy, it’s cruel of me to do it. He needs to lose weight or he’ll end up dead. He doesn’t deserve that. I don’t want to lose him. He’s only 18, he’s got his whole life ahead of him. I will do anything to help.’

Speaking about her battle to closely monitor what her son – who was hospitalised earlier this year with breathing problems and a high temperature – eats, Katie revealed Harvey even ‘eats in his sleep’ and finds food himself, making her task impossible.

The former glamour model added in the heartbreaking interview that Harvey will ‘smash things up’ when he’s told no, insisting people don’t understand it’s not as simple as ‘not letting him eat’.

She said: ‘It’s a cruel and horrible illness where he feels hungry all the time – and if he doesn’t get food he gets angry. It’s hard work. He’ll smash things up if you say no. I’ve had to re-plaster my walls because he’ll bash holes in them with his head.

‘He knows what nice things taste of. I’ll give him sweet potato chips instead of real fries but he knows the difference. It’s not what he eats in the day, it’s what he eats when I don’t see him.

‘I’ve tried hiding food but he’ll find it. You can’t leave food or leftovers on the side or he’ll eat it, and he’s really quick too. He even eats in his sleep. He’ll walk downstairs and eat whatever he can find. We’ve even found him rummaging through friends’ bags for food.’

Earlier this month Katie took to her Instagram stories to look for exercise options for Harvey during lockdown, as gyms are now closed for the rest of November.

She wrote: ‘Can anybody help I’m looking to rent a treadmill and rowing machine for Harvey that can take his weight 28 half stone and other gym bits as through lockdown I have to make sure he can exercise at home please help dm me [sic].’

Speaking about her son’s weight earlier this year, Katie told The Sun: ‘When Harvey went into hospital, I feared the worst. I always do.

‘The doctors have told me he’s at high risk of having a heart attack. He’s 27 and a half stone, wears 5XL clothes and he gets out of breath walking up the stairs. So of course I panicked.

‘I can’t see him living past 50 unless we sort out his weight and breathing.’
