Sandra Oh delivered an impassioned speech at a campaign rally against Asian hate this weekend, calling for the community to support each other.

Last Wednesday, eight people were killed – many of them of Asian descent – during a two-hour shooting spree at massage parlours in Atlanta, Georgia.

A 21-year-old man, Robert Aaron Long, was arrested in connection with the incident.

Killing Eve actress Sandra joined the Stop Asian Hate protest in Pittsburgh on Saturday and stopped to address the crowd on the megaphone.

She said: ‘For many of us in our community, this is the first time we are even able to voice our fear and our anger, and I really am so grateful to everyone willing to listen.

‘One thing that I know is that many in our community are very scared, and I understand that. And one way to go through our fear is to reach out to our community.’

Sandra added: ‘I will challenge everyone here, if you see something, will you help me? If you see one of our sisters and brothers in need, will you help us?

Sandra Oh said she’s ‘proud to be Asian’ as she joined the Stop Asian Hate rally

‘I am proud to be Asian. I belong here. Many of us don’t get the chance to say that.’

The Emmy-nominated actress is among a growing number of celebrities who have spoken out in support of the Asian-American community since the massacre.

Former Lost actor Daniel Dae Kim said: ‘I would like to speak to the importance of allyship. Every group in America has their own specific history here, and all of us have one thing in common in that we’ve suffered oppression in one way or the other.

‘This is not a victim mentality, and this is not our way of saying, “We deserve or we are entitled to [it]”, but it is our way of saying that we are stronger together. It might be wrong to say, “Well, our experience is equal to another ethnic group’s experience”.

‘I don’t think we can say that. But we can say that we have suffered under the same paradigm and dynamic that exists in American history, and I think if we are together recognising this collectively, it will really help all of us.’

Comedian Trevor Noah denounced the horrific shooting in an emotional monologue on his talk show, while will.i.am used his platform on The Voice to raise awareness for the ‘stop Asian hate’ movement.
