*Warning: Spoilers for Line Of Duty series 6 finale*

Piers Morgan has reflected the mood of the country after watching the Line Of Duty series 6 finale last night.

The hotly-anticipated episode of Jed Mercurio’s acclaimed cop drama finally unveiled H’s identity after years of investigating, with DCI Ian Buckells (played by Nigel Boyle) revealed as the mystery character.

The concluding chapter also left the future of anti-corruption unit AC-12 hanging in the balance.

Many fans were left feeling frustrated over the grand conclusion as they had been keeping their fingers crossed for a huge villain reveal in line with their own theories – such as the icy DCS Patricia Carmichael (Anna Maxwell Martin) or Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar).

Having his say on the scenes at hand, former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers took to Twitter.

Making use of the famed Line Of Duty spelling mistake, he weighed in: ‘Definately a tad underwhelming’.

Many people agreed with Piers’ sentiment, with one replying: ‘The worst finale there has ever been! The whole series has been messy and underwhelming!!’

‘It’s only a television show but I genuinely feel that it was the worst finale for any show I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like they didn’t even try and quickly wrapped it up,’ another said.

However others weren’t so harsh.

‘Totally underwhelming but realistic,’ a third wrote. ‘If there was institutionalised corruption then the public certainly wouldn’t know about it. Everything would be done to stop it becoming public. That’s why the ending is true to real life.’

Actor Nigel was ‘buzzing’ by the grand revelation that his character Buckells was H.

‘I never suspected it because I know how Jed leads people down the garden path with really good red herrings, so I didn’t really pay too much attention to things like Buckells’ golf clubs etc, but clearly I should have done!’ he said.

‘I’d fully bought into the idea that Buckells was low on competence levels but looking back it all makes sense!’

Line Of Duty is available to stream on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
