Line Of Duty’s Terry Boyle starred alongside his real-life mum in the series 6 finale last night.

The last episode in the season finally unveiled H to be Ian Buckells (played by Nigel Boyle), in incredibly tense scenes, with the future of anti-corruption unit AC-12 left hanging in the balance.

At the very end of the chapter, it was revealed what happened to Tommy Jessop’s character Terry, who had been arrested on suspicion of the murder of journalist Gail Vella (Andi Osho).

The character was seen being helped out of a car before being welcomed into a new home, with one of the residents greeting him with a massive hug.

‘Criminal proceedings against Terry Boyle have been discontinued,’ text read on the screen.

‘He has been rehoused by social services.’

Following the episode, Tommy’s brother revealed on social media that their real-life mother Jane had bagged herself a cameo role and was the woman helping Terry in the scene.

‘YES! HAPPY ENDING FOR TERRY! And this is our Mum @jane_jessop helping him out of the car!!!’ he penned.

Tommy also took to Twitter to acknowledge his mum’s part in the grand finale.

‘Quite wicked,’ Tommy wrote. ‘My Mum has supported me for so long to be on TV and she did not expect to be on #LineOfDuty.’

The Line Of Duty series six finale was watched by an average of 12.8million people in overnight viewing figures, making it the most-watched episode of a drama in 20 years, the BBC has said.

The episode had a peak viewing figure of 13.1 million, according to the corporation.

It currently remains up in the air as to whether the Jed Mercurio drama will be returning for a seventh season.

The BBC’s chief content officer, however, has hinted at more Line Of Duty episodes in the future.

Line Of Duty is available to stream on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
