Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 16-year-old boy was knifed to death in east London.

The boy was stabbed following a fight involving a number of people in Harold Wood, a residential area near Romford.

Shocked neighbours said they saw a teenager sat on a wall sobbing and covered in blood, saying the victim died in his arms.

A passerby is understood to have attempted to carry out first aid on the wounded teenager as emergency services were called shortly after 6.40pm on Friday. The boy was pronounced dead just after 7pm.

His next of kin have been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place and a post-mortem exam was scheduled for Sunday morning.

Two boys, aged 15 and 17, are both in hospital with stab wounds and have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested on suspicion of affray. He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in early June.

The attack came just yards from where girl scout Jodie Chesney was fatally stabbed two years ago.

Retired teacher Elisabeth Undersett, 60, who lives near the crime scene, said: ‘The first thing I knew that something had happened was the air ambulance going over the house.

‘We came outside the house and saw police and ambulances all over the place.. We knew something bad had happened.

‘My husband was walking home from the park and he walked down the road to speak to the police officers because he’d seen people running to the station so he thought he should tell them.

‘He said there was blood everywhere. They thought something horrendous had happened.

‘A young boy was sat on the wall nearby, very upset, covered in blood.

‘He was saying: “He died in my arms”. I’m assuming it was a friend or a relative.’

Another neighbour said: ‘I literally came out to the car to get something when I saw a commotion on the street.

‘I saw a young boy walk by very distressed and the police sat him on the wall. He was black, mid-teens, and completely covered in blood.

‘Like a lot of places, we’ve never had anything like this happen other than the young girl who died a few years ago.

‘It’s normally very quiet. I’m terrified, I’m uncomfortable. I just feel so sorry for the family.’
