A lottery winner lost a ticket worth $1.17 million – but managed to retrace his steps successfully and find it lying on the ground outside a car parts shop. Nick Slatten, from Sparta in Tennessee, bought the winning ticket on March 10, and realized he’d won the seven figure sum the next morning.
Nick said: ‘I was stunned. I couldn’t believe it. I can’t express it. It was something else.’ The winner rushed to tell fiancee Michelle about the stroke of amazing luck, then ran errands, including a trip to an auto parts store with his brother.
An hour later, Nick realized he had lost the ticket, and said he ‘couldn’t find it anywhere.’ The ticket was unsigned, meaning anyone else who had found it could potentially have cashed it. Nick managed to remain cool-headed enough to revisit the places he’d been that day.
He was stunned to see the ticket on the ground outside the auto parts shop, right beside the driver’s door of a parked car. Nick said: ‘It’s a million dollar ticket, and someone walked right over it.’
The winner managed to retrieve the valuable piece of paper, and collected his winnings earlier this week.
Nick says he and Michelle will continue to work. The couple plan to buy a new house and invest their winnings so they can live the rest of their lives with ‘not a whole lot of worries.’
