Man, 40s, crushed to death beneath granite slabs in kitchen workshop

A man was crushed to death after huge granite slabs fell on top of him at a kitchen workshop in the West Midlands.

The man, in his 40s, was killed beneath the heavy stone at an industrial unit in Halesowen shortly before 3.20pm on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed of the incident.

West Midlands Police cordoned off the scene and a blue forensics tent was set up.

A police spokesperson said: ‘We were called to reports of slabs having fallen on to a man at an industrial unit in Lyde Green, Cradley, at about 3.20pm today.

‘A man in his 40s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Enquiries to establish the circumstances are ongoing and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.’
