Shaw and Saka have both impressed for the Three Lions as they have battled into the quarter-finals at Euro 2020, both starting in the memorable 2-0 win over Germany on Tuesday night.
It is not so much on the field that Shaw and Saka have forged a bond, though, but in training and around the England camp, where the Red Devils man is grateful for the presence of the Arsenal standout.
The pair barely knew each other before the squad met up for this tournament, but Shaw will miss his new pal when the campaign comes to an end.
‘Honestly, I love him,’ Shaw told the Lion’s Den. ‘I would just love it if he was my child or something, I love him like that and you could ask anyone in the squad and they would say how nice a guy he honestly is.
‘I didn’t know him before I came to the camp and I didn’t know what he would be like but I have got on so well with him, I would love him to be my brother.
“He is so cool, so funny and he makes everyone laugh and he doesn’t mean it.
‘He is not a loud person it is just the way he is, the way he speaks. Someone like that in the camp is good to have and he gets everyone laughing and we just all love him and appreciate the way he is.’
Saka has started the last two games and played well in both, but he could lose his place against Ukraine in the quarter-finals against Ukraine on Saturday, with the likes of Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho pushing for starts.
Whether or not he starts, Shaw has been thoroughly impressed with the teenager.
‘He is unbelievable isn’t he?’ Shaw said. ‘He is still only 19 that is the scary thing, he takes everything in his stride, he is not fazed by anything.’
