Mason Mount and team-mate Ben Chilwell opened their Champions League scoring accounts in Chelsea’s 2-0 away win over Porto on Wednesday night, with the Blues putting one foot in the semi-finals.

Mount smartly turned after receiving the ball from Jorginho before firing the ball into the back of the net with half an hour gone to score his first goal in the competition.

Chilwell followed suit with five minutes of normal time replacing, rounding Porto goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin at the end of a fine solo run.

Mount was impressed with the composure shown by his Chelsea team-mate as he celebrated his first Champions League goal in style.

‘I just said to him then after the game, brilliant composure from him,’ said Mount.

‘I didn’t expect it to be fair, I thought he was going to shoot once he got past the defender and he was one on one, I thought he’d try outside of the left foot.

‘As I saw him take the touch and go past, I was thinking wow, he’s going to put this in.

‘A brilliant finish and yeah I’m very happy for him as well to get his first Champions League goal.’

He was delighted to open his own account and help Chelsea edge closer to a return to the semi-finals of Europe’s premier competition.

‘It’s very important to me. I’ve had a lot of games in the Champions League over the two seasons and hadn’t scored until tonight.

‘It was something that was a bit on my mind but I never tried to force it, I just let it come naturally and tonight I felt like it did.

‘It was in my mind as I turned, just to get the shot off and try and get it on target. Happily for me it went in the bottom corner.

‘I haven’t seen it back but I feel like it was quite a fluid move, obviously Jorgi’s pass to me and then a turn and finish. It’s an important goal for me, first Champions League goal and it was in a big game.’
