‘So I was chatting with my daughter the other day and we were getting up and getting ready, and I usually sleep in crop tops, but I don’t really wear them out,’ Arielle said.
‘And my daughter asked me, “Oh that looks cute! You should wear that.” And I said, “Oh, I don’t know.”
Her daughter’s subsequent reply was what changed Arielle’s mind.
‘And she asked me “Oh, it’s because you don’t like your body, right?” she explained.
‘I didn’t want her to know that. So I wore the crop top. And all day I tried to compliment my own body and talk to myself out loud like how I would like her to talk to her body one day.
‘I was not completely comfortable all day, to be honest. But I feel like I need to get myself there so that I can be the best parent to her.’
Those in the comments were blown away by Arielle’s commitment to nurturing her daughter’s self-esteem.
‘Love this story! Thank you for being such a positive example for the next generation,’ wrote one user.
‘You are such an amazing mom! Thank you for doing such a great thing for your daughter. For all our daughters,’ said another.
Some shared personal stories of their upbringing and how body image affected them.
‘Yes! My mom is wonderful, but she definitely had issues with her body and didn’t hide them from me. She’s actually very petite, and when I got bigger than her at 13/14, I felt horrible about myself. You handled it perfectly!’, shared one viewer.
‘My mom always criticised her body and herself and I know she meant no harm to me but I grew up extremely self-conscious about my body and I don’t want my daughter to feel that way,’ added a second follower.
While one TikTok follower summed up what Arielle is doing, and we couldn’t agree more.
‘Breaking the cycle,’ they wrote.
‘Goals for me.’
