Their latest stunt has attracted harsh criticism, as, yet again, it’s a manicure that uses live animals.
This time around it’s tiny fish being inserted into false nails.
In a video posted on their Instagram, Nail Sunny shows a nail tech creating what they call ‘the aquarium’.
A clip shows the technician prepping the nail and adding silver glitter polish before attaching a long, acrylic ‘tank’, painted silver and blue.
A group of five fish is visible in a shallow container, and one is taken and slipped into the tip of the false nail.
The fish is almost as long as the tiny tank, which is filled with water, and appears unable to move around in the cramped space.
After being photographed, the fish is removed from the nail and returned to the tank. The salon has stated that the fish used for the mani were ‘not harmed’ and had been returned to a pet store.
This doesn’t seem to be a manicure that is actually offered to customers, more just a gimmick done purely for the photo op, but the video has still angered many.
One person commented: ‘So they were bought just to be traumatised then returned because they had no more use to you.
‘You’re out of your mind if you think that this is OK.’
PETA Director Elisa Allen criticised Nail Sunny’s actions, commenting: ‘Using animals as if they were nothing more than beauty accessories is sad and stupid.
‘There’s no excuse for ripping sensitive fish out of their natural habitats and confining them to tiny, artificial enclosures – let alone ones attached to people’s nails.
‘Most people would be horrified to see these little animals floating helplessly in stagnant water.
‘And as there’s no way to feed the fish and no way for them to get oxygen, they would inevitably die in a matter of days, if not hours.
‘This establishment must be reported to local authorities for cruelty to animals and its access to social media must be suspended while a full investigation takes place.’
