Netflix has shelled out for two sequels to Rian Johnson’s murder mystery Knives Out.

The film, released in 2019, follows private detective Benoit Blanc’s (Daniel Craig) investigation into a wealthy, eccentric family after its patriarch is found dead.

Not only did it score critical acclaim, but star Chris Evans went viral thanks to the cosy, white cable knit jumper he wears in the film as playboy Ransom Drysdale.

Netflix did not disclose the amount paid, but it is believed to have stumped up over $400million (£290million) for the two follow-ups, the most expensive deal ever for a streaming service.

Knives Out landed director and writer Johnson an Oscar nomination for best screenplay.

James Bond star Craig was also praised for his portrayal of the debonair Southern gentleman Blanc, and the British actor will reprise his role in the sequels.

Christopher Plummer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Lakeith Stanfield, Michael Shannon and Toni Collette were also in the cast.

Avengers actor Evans recently confessed that he can no longer wear cable knit jumpers in public thanks to the film’s fandom.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he said: ‘I can’t wear it anymore. It’s a shame. I don’t know if it works anymore.’

The actor confessed he was worried that people would roll their eyes at him if he wears an outfit similar to Ransom’s.

He added: ‘I love that sweater. I love those sweaters. I love cable knits. It’s my favorite thing about winter.’

The sequels are not expected to star Evans or the rest of the cast, as Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer previously confirmed Knives Out 2 and 3 are unlikely to be direct follow-ons from the first film.
