The Dutchman joined the Red Devils in a £35million deal from Ajax last summer but made just four Premier League starts in an underwhelming debut campaign at Old Trafford.
Van de Beek had been set to join Real Madrid until the pandemic hit but United swooped as the cash-strapped Spaniards failed to sign a single player in the summer transfer market.
The La Liga giants are said to remain keen on signing Van de Beek and have reportedly submitted a loan proposal to sign the Dutchman, which would include an obligation to buy in 2022 for a fee of around £30m.
That means United would recoup much of what they paid for the former Ajax ace but Solskjaer has hinted that Van de Beek is staying put next term, as he spoke about the Dutchman scoring in front of a packed Old Trafford crowd.
‘You’ve not experienced Manchester United until you’ve scored in front of the Stretford End,’ said Solskjaer.
‘Of course, Edi scored in front of some of them, and they’ve both scored in that end, but now, when it’s a full stadium, it will be different for the two of them.
‘Manchester United with and without fans are two different things. To be reunited with them will be top.’
United hope to announce the signing of Jadon Sancho in the next 48 hours.
The club have agreed a £72million fee with Dortmund and the playmaker was in the north-west today to undergo his medical.
Once Sancho signs, United will then focus on their attention on signing Real Madrid ace Raphael Varane.
