Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey could potentially go back to the sidelines after sustaining an injured shoulder in their Week 9 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The encounter was his first game back after missing more than a month with a high ankle sprain.
Further tests will give more clarity regarding his availability but his status for their Week 10 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is now in jeopardy, via NFL Network‘s Ian Rapoport.
The former Stanford product was his usual self as he led from the forefront of his team’s ground attack. He generated 69 rushing yards on 18 carries and a rushing touchdown scored for the Panthers. McCaffrey showed another dimension to his game by adding 82 receiving yards on 10 catches along with another scored touchdown.
Panthers wide receiver Curtis Samuel helped by contributing 105 yards on nine receptions and a score on the endzone as well. The resilient Carolina-based squad refused to go down as they kept the game close against the reigning Super Bowl champions.
The prolific duo of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce was on full display as they avoided a letdown to escape with a 33-31 win on their home turf. The loss kept the Panthers in the bottom spot of the NFC South division with a 3-6 record while the Chiefs improved to an impressive 8-1 campaign midway through the season.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule and his men will have to press on without their top rusher as they go host another tough team in the Buccaneers for Week 10 action.
