A huge police squad swooped in on a family home after receiving reports of a murder – but the ‘dead body’ turned out to be a fake corpse used for Halloween.
Mum-of-two Cara Louise, 28, has revealed 10 officers swarmed her home in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire after three people called 999 to report a body bag outside her house.
She says she ‘couldn’t believe my neighbours thought I was capable of murder’, joking: ‘I’m only 5ft tall’.
The bizarre situation came to light after Cara drove her five-year-old son home from school to find two police cars driving away from her house.
Cara said: ‘I get out of the car to my neighbour standing there in which I ask jokingly “What have you done?”
‘Then I was told they were all at my house as three people had called in to report a dead body.’
The family had kept the fake corpse in a bin bag behind wheelie bins in the garden for the past seven months, but Cara says she had ‘moved him out to clear the garden and forgot to put him away’.
After another police car pulled up ten minutes later, the ‘embarrassed’ mum was forced to explain to officers she hadn’t killed anyone.

She said: ‘All whilst my five-year old stood telling them how much he loves Halloween and we can’t get rid of the body because he loves it.
‘It certainly made me and my neighbours laugh. Luckily the police did see the funny side, all 10 of them.’
Confused over how the decoration could be mistaken for a dead body, Cara asked one officer ‘who has legs that short?’ He replied: ‘You might have cut them.’
She said: ‘I said “Oh, did you check my bins?” They looked a bit concerned and asked “Should we?”
‘I was asked to chop it up and get rid of it to which I said “No, i’ll just put him in the shed with the others until next Halloween”.’
The mum-of-two has advised other parents to ‘dispose of props or put them away safely’ after her unique ordeal.
People on social media found the incident highly amusing, with one man called James Anthony Gaughran joking: ‘Did they actually check to ensure it wasn’t a body? Or was this the perfect crime?’

‘A number of officers patrolling nearby attended and confirmed the item was a discarded Halloween decoration.’
