Republicans compare Trump to Jesus while Seth Meyers compares him to a house fire

It’s an historic day in the U.S., as President Donald Trump becomes the third president in the history of the country to be impeached. Still, his loyal band of Republicans kept scrambling for a defense even in the eleventh hour, Rep. Debbie Lesko accusing Democrats of “tearing families apart.”

“First of all, it is rich to accuse Democrats of tearing families apart to defend a president who is literally tearing families apart,” said Seth Meyers on Late Night. “Second, they all sound like bratty teens yelling at their parents. ‘Stop coming into my room, you’re tearing this family apart — I have to build my LEGO Space Force!'”

Meyers also performed a cartoon supervillain read of the “truly deranged” letter Trump sent to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, mocked Republicans likening Trump to Jesus, and picked apart the president’s insistence that impeachment should only be used “many, many, many years apart.”

“It’s not supposed to be many, many years apart,” said Meyers. “Impeachment’s not Halley’s Comet, it’s a fire truck. It shows up when there’s a fire. You’re not allowed to say, ‘We can only use that hydrant once every 50 years, sorry about your house!'”
