Russia plane crash: Aircraft with 28 passengers crashes into sea

A plane carrying 28 people has crashed into the sea after vanishing from radar in a remote area of east Russia.

Rescue teams have been deployed to the Kamchatka peninsula in search of survivors, but it is not clear if anyone has been found.

The flight had set off from regional capital Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and was heading for the village of Palana in the north before losing contact, the emergencies ministry has confirmed.

A child is said to be among those on board, as well as the head of the Palana village administration, Olga Mokhireva, 42.

A spokesman for the ministry said: ‘An An-2 plane has disappeared from radar.

‘We are trying to figure out what happened.’
