Jason Bell may have been the latest star to get the boot from Strictly Come Dancing, but he’s grateful the show gave him the opportunity to set an example for his daughter.
The NFL star, 42, shares six-year-old daughter Anaiya with former Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle and he says his little girl is super ‘proud’ of him taking part in the dance competition.
Appearing on BBC Two spin-off show It Takes Two on Monday night, Jason briefly spoke about his daughter and said that he used his time on Strictly’s latest series to ‘set an example’ for Anaiya.
‘She is proud of me,’ he told host Zoe Ball. ‘We were talking on our way to school this morning, you know, everything I do is trying to show her what a good man should be.’
Jason continued: ‘Six-year-olds they’re experiencing all the things in life and I just want to be an example to her.’
Revealing that Strictly gave him the chance to do exactly that, he said: ‘I got the opportunity to go and push myself, and be uncomfortable, and come out on top.’
Jason was the second star to leave Strictly on Sunday night following his Star Wars themed routine for movie week and losing out to Nicola Adams in the dance off.
He had finished bottom on the leaderboard and despite the judges commending Jason for taking on their feedback and using it in his final dance, they voted unanimously to keep retired boxer Nicola and her partner Katya Jones in the competition.
It meant it was the end of the road for Jason and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk, with the US sports star admitting he’s already missing his daily rehearsals.
‘To be honest I just miss practice,’ he revealed. ‘I realise how special it is, now that I don’t have it every day.’
He wrote on Instagram following his exit: ‘Thanks for having us Strictly! We’re obviously gutted to be leaving but it’s been an incredible experience, which will live with me forever.’
‘The support and kindness shown from you – the Strictly community – has been overwhelming. The fantastic team that work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver the show have been a joy to work with,’ he gushed, before adding a shout out to his professional partner.
‘Then there’s Luba – my Team No-Breaks partner – who I’ve had such a blast with. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Good luck to everyone in the coming weeks.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
