Strictly Come Dancing’s Katie McGlynn has already injured herself ahead of the series starting by slicing open her foot during filming.

The former Coronation Street star was left in ‘severe pain’ after kicking the Glitterball trophy during a montage on Friday, just days ahead of the hotly anticipated launch show.

According to reports, Katie was instructed to pretend to boot the prop. However, in a classic case of miscommunication, it’s been claimed the actress fully pelted the ball, totally oblivious that it was made from glass.

‘Her feet were properly exposed in high heels and she was dolled up to the nines for filming,’ a source said.

The insider added to The Sun: ‘There was glass everywhere and everyone was left in shock at what happened.’

‘During filming promotional content for Strictly, Katie accidentally sustained a small cut to her foot as a result of kicking a prop,’ a spokesperson said.

‘The injury is minimal and doesn’t require any further attention and she is completely fine.’

The line-up for the upcoming series of Strictly will see stars including comedian Robert Webb, Loose Women panellist Judi Love and Olympic champion swimmer Adam Peaty work on their dancing skills.

Also competing will be former rugby player Ugo Monye, EastEnders actress Nina Wadia, TV presenter AJ Odudu, Dragons’ Den investor Sara Davies, Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, TV presenter Tilly Ramsay, CBBC host Rhys Stephenson and actor Greg Wise.

EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis will be the first ever deaf contestant to appear in the series, while Bake Off winner John Whaite will be taking to the dance floor in another first for Strictly, as one half of an all-male pairing.

Meanwhile, Anton Du Beke swap his dance shoes for a full-time role on the judging panel.

The 55-year-old professional dancer, who judged for a two-week stint during the 2020 series, will join Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Shirley Ballas on the panel.

Anton will take over from Bruno Tonioli, who remains unable to take part due to travel uncertainty caused by the pandemic as he lives in the US and is also filming Dancing With The Stars.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday 18 September on BBC One.
