Cameo, a video messaging platform, enables members of the public to pay celebrities to create personalised videos for them, which many organise as gifts for loved ones.
There are plenty of big names on the website, from Harry Potter actor Tom Felton to singer Lily Allen and Baywatch star David Hasselhoff.
Brian, who played Kevin Malone on the US version of The Office, is also on Cameo, proving to be one of the most popular famous faces on the platform.
Last year, Cameo co-founder and CEO Steven Galanis revealed that Brian, 48, made ‘over $1 million’ – which equates to just under £724,000 – in 2020 after creating personalising videos for over 5,000 fans.
In a recent interview, Brian explained to The Hollywood Reporter that he ‘finally decided to give it a try’ after being asked to create a Cameo account several times.
‘I know this sounds Pollyanna or politically correct, but I was on a very popular beloved television show,’ he said.
‘There’s a comedy that I’m known for, which is helpful, but really what happened during this time is that people wanted to make a connection. It’s not really about me. I’m really the person who gets two people together.’
The actor, who hosts a podcast about The Office and is releasing a book this year titled Welcome to Dunder Mifflin: The Ultimate Oral History of The Office, outlined how some fans use his Cameo videos to bury the hatchet after falling out with loved ones.
‘I get messages from people who are estranged from loved ones, and they are throwing a buoy out in the water. Or it’s, like, a father and daughter watched the show together or friends that may not have seen each other in a while,’ he said.
‘They use it to find a connection, come closer together or use my character Kevin to make somebody laugh. That’s how I view it and I really do enjoy that.’
The Office US is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
