The Blues secured their place in the top four on the final day of the season despite losing 2-1 to Aston Villa at Villa Park.
They spurned multiple opportunities to find the back of the net, but it didn’t end up costing them as Leicester’s 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham meant Chelsea booked their spot in next season’s Champions League with a fourth-placed finish.
Midfielder Jorginho ended up as the west London club’s top scorer in the Premier League, with all of his seven goals coming from the penalty spot.
Meanwhile, last summer’s marquee attacking signings including Kai Havertz and Timo Werner struggled to find the goalscoring touch that had served them so well in Germany’s Bundesliga.
Chelsea have been linked with a whole host of Europe’s top strikers in recent months such as Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Tottenham talisman Harry Kane and former Blue Romelu Lukaku, now of Inter Milan.
When assessing Tuchel’s side’s performance against Villa on Sunday, Arsenal legend Wright highlighted their lack of cutting edge in front of goal, and called for that to be resolved by bringing in a No.9 in the upcoming transfer window.
‘They were dominant,’ Wright told BBC’ s Match of the Day.
‘He [Tuchel] should be very disappointed.
‘The chances [they had], with a massive game coming up next week.
‘The goalkeeper may be out. When you look at the domination they do have, that probably starts to sink into the defenders because you’re not taking your chances, you’re not scoring them, so you’re down there trying to keep them out.
‘When you look at these chances, they’re very good chances. They’re missing too many, like I say.
‘I feel for them because they’re doing everything they can to get into these positions.
‘You have to put it into perspective: when he came, they were ninth, now they’re fourth.
‘They’ve got to find this striker, because I don’t think they’re a million miles away.
‘They’ve got to be doing it for next season, they have to be doing it.’
