Bosses at This Morning have denied axing Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford from the show.

ITV have shut down any rumours that the couple, who presents This Morning every Friday, are being replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary.

Addressing the recent reports, a spokesperson for This Morning told Metro.co.uk: ‘We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.

‘Any additions to this line up will be announced in due course.’

While Eamonn and Ruth are yet to comment on the rumours, their former colleague Fern Britton, who left This Morning in 2009, has expressed her shock at the news.

Fern retweeted a post from The Sun columnist Dan Wooton, who tweeted: ‘What appalling treatment of Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford by This Morning and ITV.

‘They have been absolute loyal rocks to that show through turmoil and are beloved behind the scenes. Sad to see.’

Fern simply captioned the tweet with: ‘Oh no?’

Fern later went on to retweet another post from Dan, who explained that his first tweet wasn’t to take anything away from Alison, who he described as a ‘superstar’.

The rumours surfaced after it was reported that Alison, 45, and Dermot, 47, impressed bosses when they took over hosting duties this summer, during Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s six-week break.

Former Big Brother contestant Alison has also been hosting segments for the show since 2003 and presented her own documentary Back To School earlier this year.

An insider said: ‘They have real warmth. It’s time for a change and they are perfect.’

They added to The Mirror: ‘Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made.’

Married couple Ruth and Eamonn first joined This Morning in 2006 and have been hosting the Friday programme and school holidays ever since, with Holly, 39, and Phil, 58, presenting Monday to Thursday.

Earlier this year, it was rumoured that Eamonn and Ruth would be leaving the show, with the Irish star addressing the claims on Twitter.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
