Former Big Brother contestant Alison has also been hosting segments for the show since 2003 and presented her own documentary Back To School earlier this year.
An insider said: ‘They have real warmth. It’s time for a change and they are perfect.’
They added to The Mirror: ‘Eamonn is pretty furious and everyone feels for him and Ruth, they are well liked on the team, but sometimes tough decisions have to be made.’
Married couple Ruth and Eamonn first joined This Morning in 2006 and have been hosting the Friday programme and school holidays ever since, with Holly, 39, and Phil, 58, presenting Monday to Thursday.
Earlier this year, it was rumoured that Eamonn and Ruth would be leaving the show, with the Irish star addressing the claims on Twitter.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
