Tom Cruises’s bodyguard’s stolen BMW reportedly contained one of the world’s only copies of the script for upcoming movie Top Gun: Maverick.

The car was stolen in Birmingham while he was filming Mission: Impossible 7.

Both the car and the script copy were later found.

A source told The Sun: ‘That film’s been blighted by challenges but everyone involved is excited by how it’s come together. Finally the end’s in sight.

‘So, after all the hard work, the thought of it being leaked after Covid delays forced the release back to next year is devastating.

‘The only copies outside the studio vaults have now been assigned their own security when they are transported. There’s too much riding on this not to do so.’

Tom reportedly had thousands of pounds of luggage in his bodyguard’s £100,000 car when it was taken from outside a hotel in the city,.

Video footage obtained by the Sun showed the vehicle being dumped in Smethwick, at 9.13am, behind a row of takeaways.

West Midlands Police told Metro.co.uk in a statement at the time: ‘We received a report of a BMW X7 stolen from Church Street, Birmingham in the early hours of Tuesday morning (24 August).

‘The car was recovered a short time later in Smethwick. CCTV enquiries have been made in the area that the car was recovered from. Enquiries are ongoing.’

Tom’s films Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible were both delayed again this week amid the Covid-19 crisis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the films will now premiere just months after each other.

Top Gun: Maverick will now open on May 27, 2022, and the latst Mission: Impossible will land in theaters on September 30, 2022.

Maverick was originally set for a June 24, 2020 opening but was shifted back to December 23, 2020, due to the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It later had release dates set for July 2, 2021, and November 19, 2021 before the latest delay.

Metro.co.uk has contacted reps for Tom Cruise and Paramount for comment.
